Hi there! Hope that you find some interesting ideas here, mostly related to technology improving my life.
I'm an optimist about humanity and our future, including AI (and tech generally) in continuing to make things better. No person, nation, or technology is all good, but we can try.
This website is shamelessly aping inspired by shloked, was named by XKCD(936), and philosophically grateful to Kara Swisher and Simon Willison. For now, I'm keeping this anonymous, as my personal identity is beside the point. If you know my name, please don't connect it to this website.
I mostly avoid political commentary, especially where it manifests as political science, factions and horse racing. But I'm a proud American who votes and has sacrificed for the sake of the nation and its principles.
I have the luck, privilege and luxury of working for a company whose values and choices I largely support, and this is important to me. Hint: it's absolutely not Meta, but I follow the industry closely enough to have plenty of criticism for them all.
I'm not on social media, with this identity or generally.
I don't use AI to write this site…but that probably doesn't mean what you think. I use AI for ideation, analysis, editing, visualization, website development, and most things in my life. Just not for drafting the words.
I appreciate nuance and unresolvable contradictions. One example:
I admire Elon's accomplishments in engineering and technology, as well as the results of his leadership and management style, while also condemning most of his character, personal choices, and recent ventures (politics). On net his contributions to humanity have been positive, although I'm less confident in that calculus given recent developments like China's self-directed EV boom and the deaths attributable to DOGE's dismantling of humanitarian programs like USAID.
My p(doom) is currently 20%.
